Seminar on Infection Control with Antimicrobial Copper, Japan

27 April 2013

Conference Room, Chiyoda Hospital
Hyuga-shi, Miyazaki, Japan

Chiyoda Hospital, a 200-bed facility with 9 specialties on the island of Kyushu in Japan, is the world's first new hospital fitted throughout with antimicrobial copper door furniture.
Since it opened on 2 July 2012,

it has provided another layer of infection control to shut down the cycle of infection on surfaces where patients touch most frequently. The antimicrobial copper touch surfaces there have been working continuously since.

On 27 April 2013, a half-day seminar will be organized by JIMMDIR (Japan Institute of Medical Materials Distribution Research) at this hospital to share with 150 other healthcare professionals on preventive measure with antimicrobial copper to reduce the spread of infections in hospitals.

This is the second in a series of such seminars to be organised by JIMMDIR.

The speakers include Prof Seiko Muramatsu of the Japanese Red Cross Kyushu International College of Nursing.

Another speaker is Dr Takeshi Sasahara who has spent many years conducting clinical trials with antimicrobial copper in Kitasato University Hospital.

Mr Takashi Osa of JIMMDIR says, "if we can reduce the infection rate with antimicrobial copper products it will be a great contribution, and benefit our country in many ways. Therefore, I would like many facilities to use them".
